Special-Needs Education
A real key to special education is to be persistent, to be involved and to be vigilant that school officials are doing what they said they would. If something doesn't feel right, be a squeaky wheel and make sure your child is getting the services his or her plan calls for. Another key is to be realistic in terms of what you expect from the school. There is only so much that can be done in certain situations. Remember: you are not there to make friends with the adults. You are there for your child. Be a fierce advocate and make sure the school does all that can be done to help.
