Classic children's stories and movies have storylines about finding "true love." In the "Lion King," Simba falls in love with Nala, and in many fairytales, a princess finds her prince. Even Harry Potter and company are not immune from crushes and dating. It's no wonder that kids imitate what they see....

If your child's boyfriend or girlfriend goes to the same school as your child, find out what the rules are about showing signs of affection, like holding hands and little kisses. When they are young, a peck on the cheek might be a simple gesture of friendship but it could also get them in trouble. When they hit 4th, 5th and 6th grade, remember they know more than you think and as kisses and petting get heavier, you might want to begin to put greater restrictions on their alone time and explain what is and isn't appropriate.
