I think that asking kids to help around the house is always beneficial. It teaches them responsibility and how to care for things (their room, their clothes, their toys, etc.) Chores always has such a negative connotation to me. "Helping out" sounds positive whereas "chore" has a built-in negative "I don't wanna do it" sound.

Ideas

Great regular responsibilities for school-age kids include:

folding clothes as they come out of the drier.

putting their own clothes away in drawers

setting the table

emptying the dishwasher

feeding the dog

reading to their younger siblings

sweeping the porch
