The most important thing for a parent to do on a sleep over is to stay out of the kids hair.  They get so excited about their independence and staying up all night, it's really important for them to feel like they are getting one over on you.

Some things to keep in mind concerning sleepovers are hygiene. Does your child's friend have the same hygiene habits as your child? Make sure that when having someone over or having your kid at someone's house, they are in a clean environment. Do they have pets inside the house? Is anyone allergic to pets? Also be prepared for your kid to possibly come home with lice. It often happens at sleepovers no matter how clean the families are. Sharing beds, pillows or even close spaces is a great environment for those critters. Fortunately, they can be rid of rather easily. Just make sure to do a quick check before your kid gets back in the house. Also, remind them to brush their teeth. This is often forgotten when sleepovers occur.
