Prom is one of those things that seem the world to your kid. But remember, Prom is also a very expensive event. A recent USA Today article said the average cost of prom night was $1,048. That's a mortgage payment for some! So unless you are willing to dole out the dollars, have your kid start saving early for the big night. Even if they say they don't want to go, they will probably change their mind and be happy they had that savings.

Also, as a parent be realistic and know there might be drinking on prom night.  Make sure that your child and their date have a safe way to get home. Nothing is worse than the stories in the paper every year about a prom date that didn't make it home because of a drunk driving accident.
