Prom is also a very expensive event. A recent USA Today article said the average cost of prom night was $1,048. That's a mortgage payment for some! So unless you are willing to dole out the dollars, have your kid start saving early. Also, as a parent be realistic and know there might be drinking on prom night. Make sure that your child and their date have a safe way to get home. Nothing is worse than the stories in the paper every year about a prom date that didn't make it home because of a drunk driving accident.
