If your child lets you know he or she is homosexual, they are sharing with you one of the hardest moments of their life. Society and imagery all around them says that homosexuality is not "normal" and even though there are many supportive environments for gay and lesbian men and women, there are still too many that are not supportive and even hateful. Make your home a place where your child feels safe, comfortable and understood. In reality, our sexuality is only one small part of who we are. As a parent, supporting your child's sexuality is a critical opportunity that will give them the confidence to believe in themselves and not let other people's perception of their sexuality dictate the whole person they become.
