I agree that as time marches on, you have to consider letting loose of the reins a little. If the child seems to be making good choices, isn't it better to let them loose little by little while they're still under our roof rather than going crazy as soon as they leave for college? If we're too strict while they're still at home, they're liable to be one of the crazy ones freshman year at college. It's a delicate balance. That's for sure. Our eldest daughter is only a sophomore, so we're still in the beginning stages of all of this, and she's not even dating yet. So, it's easy for me to say what I'm going to do when I haven't really had to do it yet!
