According to a New York Times article, 36 percent of people age 25-29 have a tattoo and the Food and Drug Administration estimates 45 million Americans have at least one tattoo.  So it will probably be likely that your teenager has either asked to get one or at least had thoughts of getting one. The good news is, they are pretty easy to remove these days if you have the money and don't mind the pain. As for body piercing, most holes, aside from the ear plugs (those holes in ears about dime size wide) will close when they aren't being used.
