I have a 12 year old that we have caught in a lie numerous times. She has lied to her parents and teachers at school. She has been caught and my husband and I do not agree on the discipline. He has taken away her social life, her best friend and boyfriend, computer, tv, radio, phone, sleepovers for at least a month if not more. Had her write notes to her teachers apologizing for lying. Walked her to the bus stop and told the bus driver he wants her to sit in the front seat. We have to have a conference with all of her teachers at school. Took away an overnight church trip I was supposed to go on with her. Went through her backpack. Her and her best friend keep a notebook of everyday happenings and he wants to read through it. She will have no privacy whatsoever anymore until the trust is built back up again. I think it is just a little too much. It is not about drugs or anything like that. When she was asked questions about something she didn't tell the truth about it. Like having a boyfriend and wanting to switch classes in school. She lied about the reason. Anyway, I could go on and on but I am not sure the proper way to discipline on this issue. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience in this area?
