But before you get too frustrated with your child's inability to keep himself clean, realize that until they're about 4 years old, most children don't have the fine-motor skills or the attention span required to brush their own teeth and hair, or clean themselves adequately after using the bathroom....

There are tons of cute bathroom products out there now that are meant to attract children. Although marketing to children is somewhat deceptive, in this case -- if it helps them with hygiene -- it might not be so bad. If your kid is the type that hates washing up and brushing teeth take them to the store and let them pick out some smelly soaps, a character toothbrush, and some fun towels. By giving them ownership, they might show more interest in cleaning themselves up. Chances are you will still have to remind them to wash their hands and brush their teeth but it might happen one less time.
