I have twins so when one starts with the "Why," the other one gets going too. Oy! At first I gave them all my attention and tried answer them in a really thoughtful way, but that just got them going more -- of course, usually it's the attention they want, not the answer! Then I accidentally hit upon the perfect response: "Why not?" You should see the looks in their eyes when they start imagining the alternatives. One will offer purple sky, the other counters with green to match the grass, and off they go giggling with more outrageous suggestions. It gets them every time.
