You're right, boys are different, mine definitely is. I would ask your son's teacher if she has any concerns--she is the one who is trained to understand where kids are in their development and if there is anything to worry about. Letter recognition is one thing, being able to recite the alphabet is another, and maybe less valuable.
Mine son, now 8, is reading, but this happened more slowly for him than many of his classmates. Follow your teacher's guidelines and have faith! I've been told that children learn letters and reading skills at greatly varying speeds until about third grade.
