You've probably been thinking about baby names since before you got pregnant, but that doesn't mean you've got a short list yet. Coming up with a name is such an awesome responsibility that deciding on the perfect one can seem nearly impossible.
You can come up with a starter list in lots of different ways:
Grab a book. There are baby name books galore, many tailored to your interests, religious beliefs and even lifestyle choices.
Look online. A quick Google search will give you more baby name sites than you ever thought possible. Most allow you to search by sex, beginning and ending letters, most popular names, and more.
Look to literature. Maybe the right name is in your favorite novel. Or flip through books you loved growing up.
Check out the dictionary. If you want a name with meaning, decide what meanings matter to you and then look to the baby name books to find one that fits.
Interview your family. Check out your family tree for great names with personal history. Don't neglect trying out ancestral last names for first names.
Mix it up. Try playing around with your and your partner's first and middle names to see if they inspire a new combination.
Look to your heroes. Who has inspired you? Whether you admire a cultural idol or an important friend or family member, you may want to gift your baby with this personal legacy.
Try something close. If you love a name that seems to have turned too popular, try one that sounds similar or has the same definition. For example, if you love Biblical names but there's already a Noah in the family, look to less common names like Abel, Elias, or Gideon. Or if you love Emma, try Ella.
