Colic is tricky.  If you are a new parent, having a baby that cries for a majority of the day can make you feel like a failure pretty quickly.   A diagnosis like colic is especially hard because there is no "cure."  You have to live with a screaming baby, hoping that it will pass, meanwhile, missing out on opportunities to bond with your baby.  I understand there is an ongoing debate in the medical community as to whether all colic really should be considered GERD (Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease) see here .
My opinion is that there is no such thing as colic.  I believe if a baby is screaming because of pain, there is something causing that pain.  I believe colic is either gas or acid reflux.
I strongly recommend reaching out to other parents and find people to talk to about living with GERD.  Doctors are great, but until you experience this in your own home, it is hard to really have sufficient sympathy and understanding.
