My first (and only) son suffered from colic. (Well, actually we ALL suffered!) After the first week of non-stop bawling from 3pm to 6pm, I called the pediatrician's office begging for help. The nurse gave me the most valuable information I've ever recived.
Here was her advice: Wheel in a vacuum cleaner next to the baby, turn it on, and see what happens.
Like MAGIC. It worked! The noise, the vibration, whatever, soothed the baby and quieted his sobs. For the remainder of his colic (which disappeared at 12 weeks), my husband and I wheeled that wonderful machine everywhere we went.
Not only was the baby happy, but we were happy, and our floors have never been cleaner.
