Does anyone have any ideas for a safer kitchen?

The kitchen is filled with extremely dangerous items but it is also a place where your child should feel comfortable. Many of our own memories are from time spent in the kitchen with Mom, Dad, Grandma, and family. So be very diligent about keeping hazardous stuff away from your children but be sure to give them a place in the kitchen where they feel comfortable. By keeping plastic cups and bowls in lower drawers, you are giving them ownership and teaching them responsibility. Let them get their own bowls and have them help you fill them at snack time. Use plastic measuring cups with spouts to have them pour their own water, milk or juice into their sippy's. Kids will appreciate having some ownership in the kitchen and with your guidance, constant communication and a watchful eye; they will learn what's safe and what's dangerous in the kitchen.
