Crawling
Once they start crawling, it's time to really start the safety check. Make sure your house is child-proofed because they will be motoring around quickly and exploring even more. You might also want to get the video camera out to capture some of those precious moments on film. There is nothing as cute as a little bottom scooting along and swaying from side to side.
Giving your child the opportunity to explore and discover new things on their own is a critical skill that can't be over emphasized. Babies and toddlers need to learn how to learn and we as well meaning parents helping them don't improve the learning. Babies and toddlers learn from failure, not being able to open the cabinet on their first try is OK; giving up after one try is not. I'm not suggesting that you should allow your child to play with the Clorox or spray Windex all over the place, but whatever sparks your child's imagination, what keeps him or her searching is good. Turn off the TV and crank up the radio so your house is filled with with music and let the search begin!
