I tried to start one of these awhile ago. At first it was great -- who doesn't want free childcare? But the bigger our group got the more of a headache it was to keep going. Once, I was supposed to babysit a friend's toddler, but she forgot she had agreed to babysit for someone else, so I ended up with an impromptu party at my place with 4 kids running around when I thought I'd just have 2. Sure, I could have referred to the rules we set up for the co-op and said no, but come on, who's really going to do that when a friend shows up in need? We broke up the co-op after 6 months, so now I'm paying for babysitters again, but it's worth it to keep some friends!
