Microwaving Bottles

Help

What Experts Say

Even though it's tempting to stick a bottle in the microwave when your baby's crying for her milk right now, don't do it.

For one, microwaves don't heat evenly, which means that despite those few drops of formula passing the wrist-test, there could still be hot spots that can burn your baby's mouth.

Microwaving the bottle could also cause potentially harmful toxins to leach from the plastic into the formula, says Ivy Faske, M.D., a pediatrician and member of the American Academy of Pediatrics' Communication Committee . The quality of plastic used for bottles varies widely, and not all bottles are even microwave safe, so be sure to check the packaging....

I have heard it is not healthy to heat plastic at all, is this true?   Is there such thing as a microwavable bottle?
