Breastfeeding and Healthy Eating
Do I need to avoid spicy foods while breastfeeding?
As a lover of very spicy food, I asked my lactation consultant this exact question. Her response was that people all over the world eat spicy foods and continue to breastfeed and that I then should also be able to. She said that babies may even like the diversity of flavor and that in turn will make it easier when they baby is ready to start eating solids.
Will my baby be allergic to the same foods that me or my husband is allergic to?
The only foods she said to try and avoid are foods that my husband or I have allergies to. These allergies are not necessarily passed on to the baby, but it was not worth the risk to try it out.
