My story about: Breastfeeding and Alcohol

DanielleBette's story

September 16, 2007

I couldn't wait to start drinking again after my daughter was born and I was so relieved that I didn't need to abstain as through pregnancy even though I was nursing. I learned from a lactation consultant that unless you drink a LOT, it doesn't enter your breastmilk in a concentration enough to affect your child so there's no need to "pump and dump." Just keep in mind your alcohol tolerance and drink in moderation because even if it doesn't pass through your breastmilk, you still have to be a parent and take care of your child.

Alcohol and co-sleeping do not work well so never go to bed drunk with your child because you are less likely to be aware of things like rolling over on them.
