Do all breast-fed babies weigh less than those who feed on formula?

According to William and Martha Sears's, "The Baby Book," there was a 1992 study at the University of California at Davis that confirmed the thought that breastfed babies are leaner than formula-fed babies. So try not to get hung up on growth charts because healthy babies should be measured in signs such as temperament, stool changes, and feeding schedules in those first few weeks rather than number charts.

How do I know when my baby is not gaining enough weight from breast-feeding and it may be time to try something else?
