Montessori Kids Love Learning From the Inside Out
I am a Montessori teacher and parent of two Montessori children. I have been working with preschool aged children with special needs for over 22 years. The name "Montessori" is not copy written so most anyone can claim to have a Montessori school. Interview the teachers, ask about their background and training and observe the classroom. A premise of Montessori is to "follow the child" by providing a enticing environment to meet the needs of all children. The extended work period allows time for each child to choose work but also to have individual and sometimes small group lessons. The aware adult in the classroom is always observing, supporting and introducing materials that will meet the developmental needs of the children in the environment.

My daughter goes to a Montessori program for preschool and it is incredible. Especially for preschoolers who create chaos everywhere, the program instills order, manners, and really encourages their individual development. We absolutely love it.

I sent my son to Montessori for preschool. It was wonderful; the best thing, I think, was that he really learned responsibility for himself (taking things out, putting things away, cleaning up, putting on his own shoes, etc). The one thing I noticed was that because he's an incredibly independent person, he was unbalanced in the activities he chose (i.e. as little math as possible). Perhaps other teachers would have taken a stronger role in re-directing him. I chose to put him in a private Christian school for elementary.
