Quiz: How Green Am I?
We have always hiked and brought back more than we took in. The whole family at one time or another has been in Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts and have learned many things. I don't know if the Girl Scouts still teach this, but our materials to the adults to share with the kids was--"see if there is a bug using this can as a house--then just leave it there." Frankly, having been raised on common sense, I just told the kids "shake the bug out" and "remove the trash."
I know that everybody is saying "don't let the faucet run while you are brushing your teeth" is definitely not a good idea--unless you are spitting not in your sink. Your sink will get stopped up fairly quickly. The same goes for men who shave with razor blades! You must run the water unless you want stopped up sinks. I speak from experience. Paying a plumer $120.00 to get your sink unstuck--is not very gree.

The quiz doesn't take into account what we do in our homes to conserve. While I agree that travel has the most impact carbon footprints, mine was quite large because I own 3 cars yet my total anual milage is under 8000 miles. I also have solar heat for my water, recycle and use LED and low watt lights in my home and grow my own veggies, just to name a few life style commitments. So take this carbon footprint calculation as a simple measure, we all probably have lower ratings than this test provides.

My carbon footprint was higher than average, which didn't make sense. I have one car & drive less than 8,000 miles per year, fly less than 4 hrs. one way per year, have only 1 person in my home. I assume that the calculation was made because I'm from CA, have a 4 bedroom single family home. I live alone, am widowed, & my home is paid for, so moving is out of the question. I do not generate more carbon because of this. I recycle everything, I have less than 1 bag of "garbage" every 2 weeks to put out, use online billing & banking. I think the carbon testing is not an accurate reflection of what people actually use/do.
