For example, my daughter and I decided that Jessica was quiet, a good student, well-liked, has pretty brown eyes but can sometimes be a little wild at heart. We took this information and put together a fun poem about her to highlight on Jessica's cover page.
You can use this poem template to get you started.
Jessica, Jessica,
Shes so sweet
From her pretty brown eyes
To the Vans on her feetMostly quiet, soft spoken
The teachers adore her
An intelligent student
Good grades follow for sureWith brown hair so silky
Dont let her fool you
While shes wild sometimes
Shes a friend to look up to
Print off the poem and let your daughter cut around the edges with decorative scissors. Use the glue stick to glue the poem to a piece of colorful card stock, then trim and glue to the tab cover page.
If poetry isnt her thing, she can write a fun note to each of her friends and highlight it here instead. Some ideas you can propose include: writing why you are glad you are friends, what you like doing with each other, and what you hope to learn from her.
Work together and add your own ideas
Don't stop here -- feel free to talk to your daughter and
brainstorm some more ways to have fun with this journal. Maybe
she wants to add ticket stubs, newspaper clippings or have the
friend draw a photo. The possibilities are endless with this fun
and colorful summer journal!
You might want to remind her from time to time to keep it going all summer long. In the fall, she can take it back to school to share with all of her friends.
Finally, mom, help her find a place to keep it safe, because this is a wonderful keepsake that she -- and you -- will cherish for years to come.
