When Emily Banks, 26, and Bianca Nejat, 24, set out to capture Emilys babys first steps on video, they had no idea that they had a business in formation. Otis became our inspiration, says Nejat, co-founder of Hello Beautiful Films, a SoHo-based family documentary company. All I did was go to her apartment and videotape him. One day, Nejat noticed a drawer filled with videos and she and Emily decided to organize and edit them on DVD. They cut a film documenting Otis first year, full of toothy grins, first steps and drools. Next, friends of theirs who are also professional videographersthe two met in film schoolinterviewed Emily about Otis first year. This added a warm, sweet touch to the film. The friends premiered the film at Otis first birthday party (hes now 22 months) and the orders started coming in in droves.

Its no wonder. Hello Beautiful Films specializes in capturing the It moments of a babys first year and every year thereafter for that matter. Each package includes a private consultation to get to know you and your family and you get to decide the music you want to use in the film and whether you want to include interviews with friends and family. Banks and Nejat also specialize in a one-minute Baby Announcement Video. This innovative high-tech announcement starts at $500 and can be e-mailed to your friends worldwide before you even pick out a snail-mail announcementyet another thing on your to-do list.

We believe in video as an art form, Nejat adds. Each video is different and catered to our clients personalities. Weve worked with Albert Maysles, the greatest documentary filmmaker of our time, and created a piece of art for our clients. We pay attention to details and are sure to make the packaging tasteful and elegant. Best of all, the company creates a time capsule and a video scrapbook that youll have forever. Our clients can look at this in 50 years so the best moments in their lives are not in a dusty box in their attic. I consider that amazing, Nejat concludes. And, just think, youre most likely offering your baby his first close-up. What could be better!

The details:

Prices range from $500 to $5,000 for a film scrapbook
An extra: $100 gets you a DVD with 50 of your favorite photos set to music.
