So, it's cold and white in MSP these days. And let's face it, it's going to be cold and white until April.
So unless you are turned off by the idea of ice because you are already rising at 5 am to take your kids to hockey practice - a rite of passage for many of the Minnesota born kids out there - why not pack up your family and head downtown Minneapolis this Friday to hit the ice as a family (well, hopefully not literally hitting the ice).
Its fun, its romantic (even with the kids in tow), and despite the glassy substance you precariously balance on, its surprisingly warm. Named one of the top ten best places in the United States to ice skate by USA Today, The Depot Rink is a historic train shed that now houses a modern-day, indoor rink with floor-to-ceiling glass walls with stunning views of the downtown Minneapolis skyline.
The rink features open skating on select days and evenings. Friday hours are from 3pm - 11pm, making it a ideal option for young or old families to have a family "date night." Skate rental is on site, although I'm currently shopping for Avery's own set of double blades. Watch out, Sasha Cohen!
When your knees and elbows have had enough, there are many family-friendly restaurant options in the area for eat-in or take out. So you can make a night of it, exhaust the kids and hopefully earn yourself an extra hour or so of sleep time Saturday morning.
