Two hours to kill with a two year old. This is what I face when I take my son to Sunday school and bring my daughter along. It's too long to hang out and just wait for him and yet too short to do something big. Sure, we could take a little walk or run an errand, but trying to keep The Firecracker from losing her cool (and me losing mine), that takes more.
That's when I discovered Tumble and Tea in Oakland. Yes, people from the City, it is time to jump in your car and drive across the big water to this little spot of heaven in the East Bay. Tumble and Tea just like their website says, is a place to eat (for me) and a place to play (for The Firecracker.) I paid for my yummy latte and the entrance fee for my daughter ($5.95 for the first child, $2 for a sibling), and off she went. Shoes were off into the cubby as she honed in on the play area of the caf. There are things to bounce on, things to climb on, toys, dolls, a great playhouse, you name it. One of the mornings we went, there was a great live band playing.
Tumble and Tea was founded by two (formerly) SAHMs who were
looking for a better way to be able to have a social life and
keep an eye on their toddlers. They created a warm and fun
environment for adults and children, with WIFI access, organic
snacks, and a child friendly bathroom (with a changing table of
course.)
It is definitely worth the entrance fee and the bridge
toll if necessary. Your kids will have a grand time, you'll
have a good cup of coffee and something to eat. Everyone
wins.
