Pastry chef, Liz Davis dreamed of opening her own version of what sociologist Ray Oldenburg calls the third place.
This place would be quite inexpensive to purchase food and drink, and highly accessible to neighborhoods so that it could become a place for regulars. People who go there can expect to see old friends and make new friends at each visit. Davis third place is The Diary Godmother; a place where you can feel more connected to the world.
Here you can find Wisconsin style homemade frozen custard, sorbet, dog treats, cakes, and nostalgic treats. How does Lemon Lavender, Thai Coconut, Santa Rosa Plum, Mulled Beaujolais, Pink Grapefruit with Angostura Bitters, Pineapple with Cilantro, and Apple Snow (with lemon and white wine) sound? And that is just to name a few. An added perk if you have food allergies or are trying to watch your weight: the sorbets contain no fat, no dairy, and no eggs.
Interested in a fun family night out with food, music and friends? Davis, a Wisconsin native, has also incorporated a monthly bratwurst night. From 6pm-9pm one night a month she serves sauerkraut with apples, German potato salad, and brats while an accordion player plays polka music. Come early to enjoy yourself because the line starts well before 6pm. Its not just about the food, but the people. The atmosphere itself is a real treat. Worst thing about this place--youll want to go back repeatedly!
Davis is currently on vacation and will be re-opening her business on February 1st. Treat yourself to a bit of Wisconsin heaven!
