I can't believe it's actually happened. Bloomingdales has come to San Diego. I have three words to say about that - FINALLY!!
Growing up, I used to dream about Bloomies. Majestically perched up there on Lexington Avenue in New York City -- pure stuff of sophisticated fantasy. I don't know if you watched Facts of Life, but I can still hear Blair say, You're never too young for Bloomingdales!
That was back when Bullocks was pretty much the only game in town (uh-oh dating myself!). But then they went and turned my Bullocks into a Target. I still havent recovered.
But, enough about me. And onto, AHHH, Bloomies!
From the moment you enter, you know it's not quite like any
other store in town. Its sleek, modern, sophisticated. The
dominant colors are black and white from the glittering floors
to the all black ensembles sported by the staff. It's that
perfect level -- not quite so snobby as Neiman-Marcus or Sax,
but it doesnt feel like that ever-more-seeming downtrodden
Robinsons-May or even Macy's!
Because its all shiny brand new, Bloomies even has an
edge on Nordstrom although Im still a loyal Nordstrom shopper
(lets not get crazy).
Bloomingdales used to carry a lot of the same private labels as Macy's (INC, Charter Club, etc.), but it appears that Federated (the parent company for both brands) are actively separating the two. However, Bloomies is known for their emphasis on distinctive offerings so you will definitely find things here that aren't available down the mall. There is a gorgeous childrens' department on the third floor the same level as their beautiful home store. I predict that a LOT of brides are going to head to Bloomies for their registries. Its just so darn civilized!
Oh, and the sales people NICE. Friendly. Helpful. One even approached me just to chat with my son and get him to smile. Thought I was dreaming! Try just try to find a salesperson at Macy's whos willing to give you the time of day!
The new Bloomies has a full calendar of great events underway from culinary demonstrations to special selling days with designer reps. The day I went, Chanel was doing a sunglass fit event. Not quite sure my selection is going to make it into my Christmas stocking, but Ill keep working on that Santa of mine!
Happy shopping!
