It's that time of year again, the time for giving and sharing and holiday shopping madness. Once again, this year technology gifts are a top choice. But even more exciting in the technology market this season is availability of so many cool WiFi products. WiFi, or Wireless Fidelity, allows you to connect to the internet from virtually anywhere at speeds of up to 54Mbps, which to the average person means "really fast." And a variety of product companies have taken note and made it an interchangeable factor on many new tech toys this season.
Below are four of the hottest new WiFi tech toys available this holiday season with my best tips on how to use their wireless capabilities.
Kodak EasyShare-One
Who wouldn't love to email a photo to a loved one within seconds of taking it? This year the hottest digital camera on the market for the holidays is the new Kodak EasyShare-One. Kodak's new wireless digital camera is the first of its kind, allowing you to share up to 1,500 images via a WiFi connection. After taking an array of pictures, you can connect directly to Kodak EasyShare Gallery (formerly Ofoto), display, share and e-mail them to friends and family. Additionally, this camera allows you to transfer pictures and videos to your computer without USB cords, or even wirelessly connect to your printer and make color prints. Welcome the new world of
"Wireless Photography."
Microsoft Xbox 360
Xbox 360 is certainly the hottest toy on the market this Christmas season and its WiFi capability makes it a great multi-media console for the whole family. Your son has probably already begged you for one, and maybe your husband has, too. It is so much more than just a gaming console; it can become the center of your digital entertainment world. Not only does it play games, it will play DVDs, CDs, DVD-ROMs, DVD-R/RW, MP3s, JPEGs, and more. But it gets better. The Xbox 360 has WiFi capabilities. You no longer have to have cords lying all over the house to trip on. Microsoft has rid you of this burden. What's even more exciting is the Xbox Live component of the console. Xbox Live allows music and pictures to be streamed from different locations, such as your computer, PDA or digital camera, onto the console. You can even stream live TV and movies if you have a Windows XP Media Center. Moms, this is no longer just your children's video game machine, this is the future of home entertainment.
Squeezebox
Today most music collections are on our computers or jumbled in a stack of CDs. But the problem that most people run into is that they don't want to shuffle through all their CDs, or that their stereo system is in a separate room and the music on their computer cannot be played in the living room, bedroom, or elsewhere. But a great gift to give this holiday season that solves this problem is a wireless digital music player, such as the Squeezebox.
The Squeezebox allows you to access any song in your music collection on your computer from anywhere in your home. Instead of shuffling through CDs or having to burn music to a disc to play in your stereo system, it delivers pure digital sound with the simple touch of a remote control. Not only does it filter through thousands of songs in your CD collection and computer, but it will also stream hundreds of internet radio station.
Similar digital media players to the Squeezebox can be found at www.slimdevices.com and www.bestbuy.com.
