Although I live in Southern California where the weather is perfect for outdoor parties year round, summer is my favorite time to entertain. In addition to the climate, our farmer's markets are filled with the finest fruits, vegetables and herbs, the can kids entertain themselves in the sun, and it's the only time of year that laziness is actually encouraged.

Continuing on the lazy idea it's also the easiest time of year to entertain thanks to a dependable grill and quick, light fare. My favorite summer menus keep it simple whether it's a family barbeque, a casual dinner party for friends, or a child's birthday party.
