Once baby arrives, there will be a flurry of activity surrounding your newborn. Not only that, if you choose to stay at home with baby, "me time" will be reduced dramatically!
Therefore, prior to baby's arrival, plan outings with your girlfriends to have lunch, a pedicure, or a simple coffee or tea break. Initially, taking baby to lunch will be relatively pain free, but very quickly, baby and restaurants and movie theaters won't necessarily mix too well. While you're waiting for baby to arrive, enjoy some quiet time and catch up on reading and correspondence.
Here are nine musts for moms-to-be to ensure you've taken care of your needs:
- Visit the dentist for a cleaning: Check with your OB/GYN on her recommendation because sometimes it's best not to have a cleaning while pregnant.
- Get a haircut: This will help gain a little pep in your step. But don't do anything drastic and remember, short hair doesn't necessarily mean less time styling. It could be easier to have longer hair you can wash every other day by pulling it back in a pony tail on the second day.
- Have dinner at your favorite restaurant: If you have a favorite restaurant where bringing children is frowned upon, make a reservation and enjoy a wonderful meal.
- Go see a movie or a show: Dora and the Wiggles will rein once your little one understands that he can be entertained by the television. Besides, you'll probably be tired and unable to stay up and watch a movie from start to finish, so enjoy a movie on the big screen or a show now without the logistical issues of arranging for a sitter.
- Take a vacation or a mini-trip with your spouse to somewhere just for adults: You may think it would be cute and fun to spend time in a place with kids to get used to it, but believe me, you'll have plenty of that once your little one arrives. Take some quiet time just for the two of you!
- Find a babysitter recommendation or service: Even though you think you may not need a sitter for some time because you don't think you'll want to leave your baby, now is the time to find someone reliable so when the moment arrives, you'll be ready.
- Relax: Sit quietly in your favorite chair with a cup of tea, read a book (not a baby book, something decadent!) and simply relax.
- Take care of business: Have your car serviced and resolve outstanding financial issues.
- Sleep: Need I say more?
