In our weekly column "Modern Mom Profiles...," we interview an inspirational mom about how she balances her family, career and self.

This week, we profile comedienne Rita Rudner, voted "Best Comedian in Las Vegas" by the Las Vegas Review-Journal for the last five years and mom to four-year Molly.

MM: What is a Modern Mom?

RR: A Mom who wears tight jeans to the supermarket.

MM: What's your secret to balancing career and family?

RR: I pay attention to which ever one is screaming the loudest and it is usually my family.

MM: What do you want to teach your children?
RR: To only share the toys that you're prepared to have broken.

MM: Favorite thing to do with your family?

RR: We're simple folk, we like to color.

MM: What did your parents teach you about parenting?

RR: Always bring a sweater. My dad brought one into the steam room, just in case it was chilly.

MM: What is your greatest achievement?

RR: The other day playing golf I got a birdie....and a ducky and a fishy.

MM: Who is your role model?

RR: Dora the Explorer. I wish someone had taught me to read a map. It would have saved me a lot of arguments with my husband.

MM: What do you do when you're feeling selfish?

RR: I get to my dressing room an hour early and watch the Home Shopping Network.

MM: What product can't you live without?

RR: Sippy cups. I wish they made them for adults. They'd be good for Margaritas.

MM: Tell us what you're up to now:

RR: I am very lucky because I get to be a mom during the day and in the evening I perform my standup comedy show at New York, New York Hotel in Las Vegas. I also have a new novel coming out this year set in Las Vegas titled, "Turning the Tables." I have to go now. My family is screaming.

Voted "Best Comedian in Las Vegas" by the Las Vegas Review-Journal for the last five years, Rita Rudner has become one of Las Vegas' most beloved performers.

Her contract to perform exclusively at the New York-New York Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas was recently extended until June 2006. In a city of cabarets and production shows, Rudner is one of the few female headliners who has achieved success by keeping her clothes on. What began as a one-month booking at the MGM Grand in 2000 led to a permanent engagement at New York-New York's $1.2 million Cabaret Theatre built exclusively for her.
