10 Questions: Felicity Huffman
Well, apparently, the jury's still out on this one. I completely disagree with "Milkman's" assessment of this interview and also with her problem with Felicity's style of mothering. If you can find me the perfect mom, go for it. The rest of us just stumble along, day to day, doing the best that we can. As for the mothers of yesteryear, who put everyone's needs before their own? Guess what. Many of those moms were unhappy. And guess what else. The single greatest indicator of your child's happiness is the happiness of the mother. If mom's unhappy, so is everyone else. So, we'd better find a way for the moms to be happy. If you're happy putting everyone else's needs ahead of every single one of your own, fine. But that's not a healthy way to live. Or love. Kids need boundaries. And they need to give back, too. I think Felicity's got the right mix and the right idea.

I really like her difinition of a modern Mom I like the values she wants to instill in her children. Many parents leave that out.

Quality childcare would be lovely indeed, if we could afford it. While true that I choose to work from home, any extra money I make from my kids being elsewhere would go toward that elsewhere. That means none of us is coming out ahead. That's why it would be great to see a discussion about working without childcare!
