10 Questions: 24's Regina King

In my weekly column "10 Questions," I interview an inspirational mom about how she balances her family, career and self.
I recently chatted with actress Regina King who skyrocketed to fame with leading roles in Ray and Jerry Macguire and has a lead role in the current season of FOX's 24.
Lolita: What is a Modern Mom?
Regina: A Modern Mom to me is not always someone that juggles a career and family. A Modern Mom is a woman who takes care of herself on the inside and the outside.
Lolita: What's your secret to balancing career and family?
Regina: I don't have a secret. Like Nike says "Just do It!"
Lolita: What do you want to teach your children?
Regina: There are so many things I want Ian (7 years old) to learn that will enrich his adult life. The most important is to have self-respect and try to never disappoint yourself. I also want him to have the discipline and motivation to do the things he loves, even when he doesn't feel like doing them.
Lolita: What did your parents teach you about parenting?
Regina: I learned a lot from my Mom. My favorite lesson: remember there is no such thing as a certain way to parent and to remember that you are learning along wiht your child - it's ok to make mistakes.
Lolita: What's your favorite way to spend family time?
Regina: Anything that makes us laugh! Playing basketball, going out for dinner, short roadtrips. Time away from the TV and other distractions.
Lolita: What is your greatest achievement?
Regina: Well, I don't have one yet. If I raise Ian to become a happy, healthy, prosperous, giving man - that would be my greatest achievement.
Lolita: Who is your role model?
Regina: My mother and grandmother.
Lolita: What do you do when you're feeling selfish?
Regina: Shop. Spa
Lolita: What product can't you live without?
Regina: Clorox disinfecting wipes!
Lolita: Tell us what you're up to now:
Regina: Right now I'm busy with my role as Sandra Palmer on 24, and I was voice of Kreela in the Ant Bully with Julia Roberts, Nicolas Cage and Meryl Streep last year.
