There was a time, not even a generation ago, when pregnant women hid themselves in voluminous, flowered tent dresses, counting the days until they could wear attractive clothes again. As one 65-year-old mother of three put it, "Back in my day, if you were pregnant, you didn't exactly run out to get your picture taken - not wearing those horrible muu muus and Peter Pan-collared dresses anyway!"

My, how things have changed.

Today, pregnancy is such a celebration, and the best maternity fashions showcase, instead of hide, a woman's blossoming body -- beautiful cleavage, rounded belly and all. Which is why dressing for parties this season should be so much fun for mothers-to-be.

With that in mind, we asked three top maternity designers - Isabella Oliver's Vanessa Knox-Brien and Baukjen de Swaan Arons, Rebecca Matthias of A Pea in the Pod, Mimi Maternity and Motherhood Maternity, and Chiarakruza's Stephanie Boye -- for advice on how to look your most stylish this holiday. What are your favorite silhouettes for moms-to-be this holiday?

Isabella Oliver's Vanessa Knox-Brien and Baukjen de Swaan Arons: "It's the perfect time to be stylishly pregnant, as there's just so much out there to suit every body shape and budget. Always wear styles that suit and flatter your shape. You will feel more comfortable, which ultimately makes you look good and ooze confidence. Let's face it, there's nothing sexier than a confident woman -- pregnant, or not.

"Style-wise there are no rules. It depends on the mood and the occasion. If you're a Glamourista, go for strapless, column silhouettes that are both elegant and timeless. For a more feminine, flirty attitude, empire line dresses and tops look amazing. And with curves so on trend right now, women wanting to show off their newly enhanced cleavage should opt for figure hugging, Jessica Rabbit-style dresses that feel truly voluptuous.

Just add dramatic statement jewelry or accents of colour and gold with patent shoes or a metallic clutch. And don't forget how a flash of luscious red lipstick creates the perfectly groomed look of the season."

A Pea In the Pod's Rebecca Matthias: "Some of my favorite items for this holiday include baby doll sweaters, swing jackets, jeweled encrusted tops and hooded sweatshirts with lurex to give a touch of luxury."

Chiarakruza's Stephanie Boye: "Purple is the new black this holiday season. Look for wrap dresses, empire waists, sexy fitted tops and straight-leg trousers -- they'll keep you fashionable and sexy this holiday season."

What dresses from your collection do you love for the season?

Vanessa and Baukjen: "One of our winter favorites is our Wrap Column Dress, both during and after pregnancy. It's effortlessly glamorous, blissfully comfortable and you can wear it different ways. We love to dress it up for the party season with chandelier earrings or a jewel encrusted cuff. Then top the look with a marabou cropped jacket.

If it's a cocktail look you crave, try our Satin Bow Dress. It's very Audrey Hepburn with a satin tie to accent the bust -- simply the perfect look that literally works every time with flats or heels and minimal accessories."
