"Monk" star and mom to 7-month-old son Sabu, Traylor Howard has been acting since high school. With the new season of "Monk" premiering this month, this busy new mom spoke to us about balancing a busy career, motherhood, and trying to find time for herself in between.

Lolita: What's your definition of a Modern Mom?

Traylor: Hmmm, I would say she is one that doesn't fit in a particular category. I know I don't fit into one. I had my son when I was 40 and Im not married and I work full time. Not how I pictured it to be when I was younger, but I'm incredibly happy with my situation! Never imagined my life could be this joyful.

Lolita: What's your secret to balancing career and family?

Traylor: My son is only 7 months so I don't think I have loads of wisdom at this point. I have a wonderful nanny who I would pay my last dime for. She brings him to the set every day so I can work and be with him. It really is the best of both worlds. And when I can't be with him, I know he is happy with her so that gives me peace of mind. All in all, it takes a lot of focus. I also try to take good care of myself because if I don't, I'm no good to him.

Lolita: What did your parents teach you about parenting?

Traylor: Love, love, love.

Lolita: What do you want to teach your son?

Traylor: To be kind. To honor himself. We are all born with certain temperaments, so it's best to just go with it and not fight who we are.

Lolita: What's your favorite family activity?

Traylor: We all love giving him a bath. He is crazy about the water so it's a blast watching how much fun he is having. Oh, and dancing, definitely dancing.

Lolita: Who do you admire most?

Traylor: My parents, my boyfriend, Tony Shaloub, Oprah.

Lolita: What is your greatest achievement?

Traylor: I'm happy to say being a mother.

Lolita: What product(s) can't you live without?

Traylor: The Fisher Price Nature Sounds Swing. We literally have them in three states at this point.

Lolita: What do you do when you're feeling selfish?

Traylor: Go out to dinner by myself--bring a book, have a great meal, a glass of wine...

Lolita: What's keeping you busy these days?

Traylor: Working 14 hour days and having a 7 month old!
