I love Bentley and Egg by William Joyce. It's an Easter book we read year-round. The story and illustrations are nothing short of marvellous!

I find The Prince and Him, by Kendal Nite truly a modern literally classic for families. This book is beautifully illustrated. It teaches diversity in a subtle tone and this author and illustrator is amazing.

I definitely want to check out those books under the "Repetition as Poetry" category. And at the end of "Guess How Much I Love You", I always tear up.

I would also recommend the "Zoom" trilogy - "Zoom at Sea," "Zoom Away," and "Zoom Upstream." They are surreal stories about a traveling kitten, but the writing is superb and nicely set off by the illustrations. These are stories I do not mind reading over and over again!

All my son will read right now are Dora books. As someone who loves reading, it makes me want to weep. I wish there was a better rating system for finding childrens books.
