Tell Your Christmas Story

I was with my brothers, sister, and parents in a place I’d been many times before. This line, though, was new. And a bit scary. It was long and winding and was making me nervous. My tummy was feeling weird inside... but I had just eaten, so that couldn’t be it. At the end of this path was a round red-suited monster who would call to every unsuspecting child in a deep bellowing voice. Each child looked more frightened than the one before. Then there were flashes of light coming out of nowhere, followed by tiny distant screams. I knew I couldn’t fall victim to this creature and grabbed tightly onto my mom’s sleeve. And then I noticed that my brothers and sister were laughing and smiling... didn’t they see what I saw? Finally we reached the white bearded monster...my brothers sat right next to him, and my sister plopped down on his lap - ON HIS LAP! I buried my head into my mom’s shoulder; I couldn’t watch any longer. And then suddenly I started to move...Oh My Gosh! Tears started to well up in my eyes as I was placed onto his knee, with his hand wrapped around my waist. At that point I did the only thing I could think of...I screamed my little head off!! The flashes of light were all around me and I could feel his grip on me tightening. After what seemed like an eternity, the flashes stopped and I could see my mom coming toward me. And she seemed to be smiling – even laughing at what had just transpired! Then she picked me up and carried me over to the checkout line, and my dad came over too. I finally started feeling a little safer, and almost believed that I wasn’t facing certain doom. Then I looked up at the screen and saw us all sitting with the big red monster... but wait a minute, had I seen this monster somewhere before? And that’s when I realized - that jolly red monster wasn’t a monster at all... he was just Santa Clause, making his annual stop at the mall!
