Tell Your Christmas Story
Like the typical teenage boy, my son is often uncommunicative and thinks the world revolves around him. This year I was surprised to get the Christmas gift request of an intermediate level trombone instead of the usual list of video games. My son has been in the band at school for six years now and enjoys being part of the marching band each year and the special jazz band. It would cost four times what I would have normally spent on him for Christmas and he insisted that he would be happy with nothing else. I was a little irritated at this at first, but we shopped online together to find exactly what he wanted. It arrived three weeks early, but he was not allowed to touch it until Christmas. I would teasingly threaten to send it back whenever he wasn't cooperating with me and he surprised the heck out of me with frequent questions such as, "Are you sure we can afford it?" or "This isn't cutting into the electric bill is it?" I couldn't believe it! The first signs that he was maturing and becoming more thoughtful at last! He was thinking about the effect his desires in life might have on others. He named his new trombone Levitz and on Christmas morning he was thrilled to become it's official owner at last. He even hugged me and my son does not hug his parents. Giving him that trombone will remain one of my cherished Christmas moments forever.
