Brief Description:

This clever Gallant Knight costume was homemade for my son Evan from recycled materials. One day he appearead as a Gallant Knight, and the next, with a little creepy face paint and the face mask raised, he went as a Dead Knight. One day handsome, one day scary.

Recycled rollerblade/skateboard protective pads spray-painted silver; a recycled motorcycle helmet spray painted silver with a face mask made from a plastic gas can. The shield: recycled cardboard/plywood; the sword was made of leftover wood. Chest covering: recycled burlap bag. The boots: Salvation Army pair of snow boots spray painted silver. The shiny silver padding worn over his every day clothes and under rollerblade pads was made of leftover backing from laminate flooring, tied with twine.

Time to Create:

Contest Photo Tips and Guidelines:
  • Avoid clutter. Keep the background simple -- your gingerbread house or holiday cookie is the star!
  • Daytime, natural light is best. If your area is bright enough, try taking the photo without the flash.
  • Upload a horizontal photo. If you crop the image on your computer, make sure you keep a landscape 4:3 aspect ratio.
  • For best results, make your image 1200x900 (or "save for web").
  • With a digital camera, you can take as many photos as possible and choose the best one. Have fun!
