Our city quit picking up recycling years ago :( Now we have to drive 20 miles to turn it in. However, I still recycle. I quit taking the newspaper, didn't have time to read it anyway! We recycle all cans, plastic and as much paper as we can. I give clothes, and furniture to charities so they can be recycled.

We live in an area that does not have recycling pick up. Our county offers free recycle centers in multiple places. They will take house hold trash too. If you bring recycling, then each trash bag is only $0.25. But if you don't recycle, then it is $1.00 a bag. We save over $20 a month by utilizing this service and not paying for trash collection. (Trash collection is by private services.) I was amazed how much less trash we had when we started recycling.

We live in a city that provides recycling containers that are picked up separate from the regular trash. What do people do who live in rural areas if they want to recycle? I suppose for them it is easier to at least compost vegetable peels, etc. for gardens. We don't even have room for a garden here in the city.
