Rotten Mummy Costume
Prep Time: about 4-5 hours
Costume Materials
- beige sheet type fabric
- black hair spray
- latex
- toilet paper
- webs
- safety pins
- plastic bugs and worms
- black/brown/gray make-up
- black nail polish
- a kid with patience. :)
- Cut the fabric into long strips and add holes here and there in various widths, wash to get a frayed look, hang out on the line for several days to get a weathered look.
- The day of, do the make up first. Start with the latex, add toilet paper in a thin layer (pull the sheets of tissue apart), wait to dry, add another layer of latex and toilet paper, do this several times until you get the desired 'mummy' look.
- Then pull some areas back to reveal the skin underneath, add some latex in that area, place bugs in to have the look of them coming out of the skull, do in several places.
- Add make up, the more brown the more authentic the look and the better the bugs stand out.
- Start wrapping the mummy, use safety pins to keep it in place and if you cut holes as you dress your little one, you can have them stick their arms, wrists, fingers, etc. through to help hold things in place as well.
- Spray the wrap afterwards with the black hairspray to give it an old look.
- Add worms crawling in and out of the mummy wrap in various places.
- Add cob webs and spray with hairspray as well, place spiders, flies, ants inside it all as well. Pull the cobwebs really thin to get a good look though and enjoy! People love this and kids love doing it. Make sure you wrap them just right so that if nature calls they can adjust well!
