  • Thin, small metal springs (2 tall)
  • 10 thin jewelry wire
  • Glue gun
Costume Instructions

Spacecraft Costume:

  1. Cut silver material in half, sew seams together vertically to form a tube.
  2. At bottom of tube, sew 1 seam for insertion of elastic.
  3. Secure and adjust as needed since this will need to provide enough room for child to walk.
  4. Cut foam pipe insulation to form two circles, one for waistline and other for opening for head.
  5. Form a circle and secure with duct tape.
  6. Place larger circle in tube of silver material at child's hip level, secure with embroidery thread and large needle.
  7. Place smaller circle at top of tube, child's neck level, secure with embroidery thread and large needle. When positioning foam tubing use pins and measure to ensure straight placement.
  8. Place one set of battery-operated lights around larger foam circle and secure battery pack inside spacecraft using self adhesive Velcro. You need to have the ability to shut batteries on/off as well as change batteries.
  9. Secure the lights with needle and thread to ensure proper spacing and placement.
  10. Optional item: You can make spaceship bumper stickers. We used "I Love Aliens," "How am I Flying?" and "Call 1-800-MARSPOLICE." These can made with white felt and markers.

Alien Costume:

  1. Take one pair of pajamas and cut off arms. Take second pair of pajamas and open the seam (3 inches) just below arm pit area (approx. 2 inches below).
  2. Sew cut off arms to second pair of pajamas to hang just below child's arms.
  3. Next attach gloves to second arms and then insert pillow stuffing to resemble human arms and hands.
  4. Attach 3 eyeballs onto the top of the arm of the pajamas, use glue gun to secure.
  5. For headband, utilize 3 pre-made lightweight eyeballs on thin metal springs. Attach them to headband with glue gun and thin jewelry wire.
