Prep Time: 2 days
Costume Materials
- 1/4 inch elastic
- 40 (+ or - for size difference) tulle (rolled tulle works best!)
- 1/4 yard of fabric for corset
- 1/4 yard of fabric for corset bcking
- 1/2 fabric for head wrap
- 2 yards of ribbon
- Iron
- Fabric shears
- First measure the waist of the child and subtract 2 inches.
- Cut the elastic to this length.
- Next, determine the length you would like your tutu to be. For mine, I used 12 inches long. (I used rolled tulle which was 6 inches wide. If using regular tulle, 6 inches wide is a great width and easy to work with!)
- Take the length you wish the tutu to be and multiply it by 2 (Mine was 12 inches. 12 x 2=24, so my tulle length is 24 inches.)
- Cut at least 20 yards of tulle (I used 40 yards for mine) in the measurements you come up with from above.
- Next, you are going to take elastic and cut it to the length of the waist minus 2 inches.
- Sew the ends together to form a circle.
- Next, you are going to take your tulle and fold it in half around the elastic making sure the length is even and tie in a knot and then another knot.
- Repeat for all tulle or until the disered fullness is reached.
- Place to the side. The tutu is finished.
- Next, measure around the wasit of the child and take that measurment and subtract 4 inches. This is the length for the corset. Determine how wide you would like the corset by measuring how high you would like it to reach on teh child. My corset is 6 inches wide.
- The measurements you come up with from above will be used for both the front and back of the corset. I used a skull print for the front and a plain black for the inside of my corset.
- With print sides of the fabrics facing each other, sew along the side of the corset (It will make the corset inside out) leaving a gap about 2 inches wide.
- Using the gap flip the corset back to the correct side and using your iron Fold the remaning fabric under making sure it is even with the rest of the stitched are. Sew closed continueing around the entire outside of the corset (Top stitch)
- Now with your ribbon cut out 6 2-inch pcs and keep the longer pcs to the side. Look at your corset and determine where you would like the loops to go. Folding your ribbon in half sew in place repeating for all 6 pcs. Lace remaining ribbon through the loops!
- Using the fabric for the head wrap, fold in have length wise. Then fold again and again. This is a no sew item!
