Leslie and I met 26 years ago. The friendship and banter right away and I realized how intelligent, talented and funny she was. But she turned me down, saying I had too much on my plate to be able to handle her. Ouch. What was that stinging in my cheeks? Could it have come from being slapped by a gauntlet? Beautiful, smart, funny&and sassy. Excuse me, busboy, would you clear not only my plate, but the whole table?
Two months later, I saw her again. She wore a white spring dress with a red belt and high-heeled red shoes. I can still close my eyes and see her. This time, she didnt turn me down. Fourteen months later, we were married.
Marrying Leslie was the smartest thing Ive ever done. Im so grateful she honored me by saying yes. I guess weve done something right in the romance department--Leslie writes romance novels for a living, and swears every hero is based on me.
