Costume Instructions
CREATING THE RACE CAR DRIVER SUIT:

1. Use a red sweatsuit or sew a one piece jumpsuit that zips up the front. (I used a pair of footed zip up jammies as a pattern!)

2. Decorate your race car suit with iron on "sponsor" patches. Visit your local craft store to collect iron on patches or visit any website with racecar sponsor logos, then print them out on iron on paper for your ink jet printer. I also found black and white checkered ribbon and other notions that resembled race car themes.

CREATING THE RACE CAR:

1. Find an old box that is just the right size for your driver.

2. Cut a hole in the middle of the box that your child can fit into.

3. Use an extra piece of cardboard to add to the front and back of your cardboard box to shape it and round the edges. (Use duck tape to hold your car together.) You can create a border for the winshield as well.

4. Use spray paint to paint the entire car. (We choose Race Car Red!)

5. Next, you will need to cut thin plastic pieces to fit inside the winshield. Hot glue your plastic onto your cardboard cut out winshield.

6. Time to embelish and decorate your race car! Use stickers or patches from your local craft store or automotive parts store, or print out images onto ink jet full sheet label paper. (This is the best part about this costume because your little racer can help out!)

7. Create headlights and taillights using battery operated stick on lights.

8. Visit a thrift store (or your child's old toy box) to find an old ride on toy with four wheels for your car. Attach the wheels to your car using a small block of wood and a screw. I used scrapbooking sticker letters to spell out "Goodyear" on each tire.

9. Finally, you will need a pair of suspenders to hook onto the car to hold it up on your little race car driver. I covered the suspenders with checkered ribbon to match the theme.

10. Want to really top it off with class? Find an old toy that makes race car sounds. Tape the toy car into the cardboard race car (hidden so only your little racer knows where it is). While trick or treating, your racer can push the button to make the race car sounds!
