Costume Instructions
First begin by creating a paper mache mix. (I used approximately 1/2 of water and flour). Tear 1-inch wide strips for paper maching. Place plastic saran wrap over large bowl (mine was 18 inches) and create the carapace (back shell). Let dry for 24 hours. To creat the Plastron (front shell) Fold 4 t-shirts (old shirts, sized 3T) into a 4x4 square with saran wrap covered entirely. Then fold remaining 2 t-shirts into a triangle shape, forming together as a "V", those also being saran wraped. Next you will evenly separate all 6-pieces of saran wrapped molds about 1/4 apart on all sides. Begin paper maching with several layers, paying especial attention to the pectoral lines. While letting 2 shells dry, you will begin shaping the eye piece. Take the scissors and cut about 2 inches tall, 1-yard long and cut out eye shapes. Put to the side. Next you will need the 4 toilet paper rolls. You will cut out 2 holes directly across from eachother on the same end, about 1/8 in size. Put link through on both ends. Attach middle link. Repeat on 2nd toilet paper roll and once cut, attach the remaining link to roll, then to the hanging links. This will make a nun-chuck appearance. Repeat steps for 2nd nun-chuck. After waiting the 24 hours, you will begin the painting process. Take the carapace and create shell looking pattern by using the paint brushes and brown and black paint like shown, painting shell shapes like shown. Next you will take the brown paint with about 1/3 of the white paint mixed in to lighten the brown to a beigish color for the plastron. Paint plastron. Once plastron is dry, shade in with the brown. Let Dry. Once the 2 shells are dry, begin measuring your model for size and placement of holes/yarn. Put on sweatsuit, follow-up with the 2-shells, secure yarn, eyepieces and nunchucks and you have a Ninja Turtle!
